Flex introduces an integrated VRM power stage offering up to 140A peak current

     Flex Power Modules has announced the launch of its new product BMR511, a two-phase power stage for Voltage regulation module (VRM) solutions. The BMR511 is a halogen-free product with an occupancy area of only 0.9 cm2/0.14 in2 and a height of 8 mm/0.31 in. It is available for LGA or solder projection terminations and is optimized for bottom cooling, complementing the previously released BMR510 product optimized for top cooling.

     The BMR511 operates in the 5-15 V input voltage range and offers an adjustable output voltage of 0.5-1.8 V, which can be set with a three-state pulse width modulation (PWM) input via a user-defined external controller. Each module provides A continuous total current of 80 A and a peak current of 140 A with a peak efficiency of up to 94.5%, and the module can also be directly paralleled for higher current outputs. The input voltage range of the BMR511 makes it compatible with multiple unregulated front end intermediate bus converters that operate with a typical input-output ratio of 3:1 to 7:1.

     The operating temperature range of the BMR511 is -40°C to 125°C at defined reference points. Flex Power Modules provides comprehensive heat derating data based on a range of air flow rates and cold plate/motherboard temperatures. Two power-stage phases can be individually enabled/disabled, and the device provides feedback to the external controller on device temperature and individual phase currents, including fault reporting and overcurrent protection.
